Adriana Herrera Tremoulet

Adriana Tremoulet smilingMy name is Adriana Herrera Tremoulet. During my third year at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine, my interest in doing patient-related research steered me to the National Institutes of Health Clinical Research Training Program (CRTP), a precursor to the NIH Medical Research Scholars Program of today.

My CRTP year consisted of designing retroviral mediated gene transfer for X-linked Severe Combined Immunodeficiency in the laboratory of Harry Malech, M.D. in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. An invaluable facet of my CRTP experience was realizing the importance of a mentor/protégé relationship.

Dr. Malech's mentoring and support has been instrumental in my career through residency, fellowship, and on to my faculty appointment. I'm now an assistant professor in the Division of Pharmacology and Drug Discovery, Pediatric Pharmacology Research Center at the University of California, San Diego. I wrote a successful NIH Career Development (K-23) Award focusing on the pharmacology of lamivudine in HIV-infected children, and have received funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The Hartwell Foundation to study Kawasaki Disease as well as from NICHD to study pediatric pharmacology.

My year at the NIH was a cornerstone of my career and I am proud to be a donor to the FNIH.
